Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party have said they will continue to force government to account for the rest of their supporters who were arrested by security forces and have not been seen again by their families.

KAGADI TV UG has established that only 71 people appear on both the government list of 177, which was tabled in Parliament by the Internal Affairs minister, Gen Jeje Odongo, and on the NUP list of 680 that was also presented in the House last week.

This means that 106 people on the government list were not known to NUP before the minister tabled them in Parliament. It also means that 609 people on the list that NUP tabled in the House remain unaccounted for.

Gen Odongo told Parliament that government was continuing with the investigations and the list was not final. He said the list could increase if families report more relatives who have disappeared.

Mr Joel Ssenyonyi, the NUP spokesperson, said the struggle to push for unconditional release of those in jail and accountability for others whose whereabouts have not been established still continues.

Meanwhile President Yoweri Museveni has urged Ugandans to discuss in an honest and balance way, the recent security operations that have had hundreds jailed.

He said the Police and UPDF have been criticized for brutal conduct and use of excessive force.

Kampala

President Yoweri Museveni has said the social-economic transformation of women in Uganda is key rather than put in place legislation for their emancipation.

He said everybody should be involved in the four sectors of the economy; commercial agriculture, small factories (industrialization) and services or ICT.

Museveni was speaking today during the celebrations to mark the Women’s day held at State House in Entebbe.

Citing an example of his wife Janet Kataaha Museveni, the president said there are chores she has never done but she is economically and socially transformed, noting that this should be the yardstick.

Museveni noted that if women are socially and economically transformed everything will just fall in place.

Kagadi

Residents in Kiryanga and Pacwa sub-counties in Kagadi district are stranded without shelter and food following the strong downpour characterized by wind that washed away over 50 houses yesterday.

The downpour that started midnight also left down churches and food crops.

The most hit villages are Kyabasara, Kikuda B, Kikunda A in Pacwa sub-county and Kikonda, Kisegu and Nyamiringa in Kikonda parish Kiryanga sub-county.

The affected residents that spoke to KAGADI TV UG have decried for quick government and leaders’ intervention to go and rescue them.

Among the destroyed churches includes Nyamiringa, Kikonda and Kigana C.O.U in Rusekere parish and Christians says have injected a lot of their money to construct the churches adding that don’t think if they will manage to re-construct the destroyed houses of God.

Albert Kwizera the LCIII Pacwa sub-county said after realizing the shock he informed fellow leaders to contact the ministry of disaster and preparedness to rush to the area to save the stranded residents.
