Parliament has summoned Justice Minister Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu to appear before the House today and explain how eight senior officials of the Electoral Commission were sacked.

On Tuesday, KAGADI TV UG reported that the eight officials, including Mr Sam Rwakoojo, the Secretary to the Commission, and Jotham Taremwa, the public relations officer, were shown the exit allegedly over corruption.

The officials are said to have rejected a ballot printing bid from a German firm, Veridos Identity Solutions, despite the President recommending the company.

Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga on Wednesday said the minister must explain the ballot printing saga that led to the sacking of the officials.

This was after MPs led Opposition Chief Whip Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said the sackings at EC are controversial since they work in favour of Yoweri Museveni who wants to run for president in the 2021 elections.
