Parliament has directed the minister for lands to explain land eviction threats in Kagadi district.
The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, who was chairing the house last evening, asked the Ministry for Lands to interrogate the situation in Kagadi District in which hundreds of people from Mpeefu, Ndaiga and Kyeterekera sub counties are being threatened by unnamed absentee landlords.
It is remembered that on 20 November 2019, Local leaders from Kagadi District petitioned Parliament over illegal possession of over 150 acres of their land.
The Kagadi district woman Member of Parliament, Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi and Buyaga West Mp Barnabas Tinkasiimire who led the group said that the contentious piece of land had been sold and titled to private individuals without the knowledge of the people occupying the land.
They said had approached various leaders including the Minister for Lands and the President in vain.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga promised to follow up the matter with the President to find out whether he had made any headway and also probe the matter for an update on the issue.
A few months later, yesterday, Kadaga said no response had been obtained from the ministry for lands, asserting that absentee land lords have already issued a notice to the affected people to leave the land within 45 days.
She called upon the minister for lands to intervene and report to parliament on Tuesday next week.
